3 BIBLICAL TRUTHS YOU SHOULD KEEP CLOSE DURING HARD TIMES

It’s been more than a year since the day when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It’s been more than a year of doctor visits, treatments, and paying hospital bills. Despite all these pains and struggles, I also realize that it’s been more so God’s overflowing provision, grace, love, and faithfulness to my mom and our entire family.
Sometimes, when we’re in the heat of trials, it’s extremely difficult to see the hand of God in our lives. It’s tougher to believe that He even cares about what we’re going through. It’s a challenge to hold on to His promises to deliver and rescue.I know this very well. I’ve felt this way again and again as I was attending to all of my mother’s needs and trying to figure out how in the world will we be able to pay the staggering medical bills. But looking back to the past 14 months, I realize God has been with us every step of the way (and He still is with us today and in the days to come).
I don’t know what you’re going through today. For all I know, it may even be worse than cancer. Despite how grave the situation can be, let me tell you three reasons you should place your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.1. He has overcome the world.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, He has set our expectations about how our life in this world will be like. He didn’t promise us a life free from problems and sorrows. He clearly stated that we will have trouble for as long as we live in this fallen world. But despite that, He has overcome all of our troubles, tears, failures, fears, heartaches, pain, burdens, and shame. Thus, we have overcome them too.
2. He left us His peace.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
Before Jesus died on the cross in our place, He left us His peace. Since He lived in this world as a man and was tempted as a man too, He very well knew how difficult it was to live with temptation surrounding us. He can sympathize with us because He was once in our shoes. He knew how much we needed His peace so He gave it to us even before we asked for it. What a mighty God, right?
3. He sent us the Helper.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.  (John 14:16)
Jesus knew the troubles of this world would be too much for us to bear, so He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and be with us. The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, will teach us all things (John 14:26). This assures us of wisdom from above even in the midst of trying times. Jesus will direct us the way we should go so we will never be lost, if we’ll only heed His voice.
Christ didn’t only die for us. He also rose from the dead after three days. And for that, no matter how impossible our situation is, we should take heart. We should always place our hope in Christ.

5 Things We Miss When We Worry about thing of life

Women worry, it’s a fact, as a woman you know that you worry about multiple things. Looking after the children, having dinner ready for your husband, do you look good in that dress?, Is she prettier than you?, … I could literally go on forever because there are so many things that make you worry. As women I think we are incline to worry a little bit more than men. How do we manage to get anything done, right?
When we live in a state of worry we lose out on the promises of God, we miss things and we end up an anxious mess, it’s almost like it is contagious, once you start worrying about one thing you end up worrying about everything. As a child of God you are promised so much more than that. Jesus died so that you could live life to the fullest, that means being certain of things but sometimes understanding that you as a woman cannot control everything. Sometimes you have to give over control to God and watch what He does.Cast your burdens upon Jesus and don’t miss out on these things that God has blessed you with:
1)    The Beauty of Today
The Bible says, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. When you are too busy worrying about the future your mind is there and you miss the beauty of the moment – Live in today! (Matthew 6:34)
2)    The Holy Spirits prompting

We are supposed to be led by the spirit, it’s our inheritance as son and daughters of God. He was sent as the great counselor when we are not paying attention we will miss the things he is guiding us to do. (Romans 8:14)

3)    Peace
When we are worrying we are not being faith filled, when Jesus left to be seated in heaven He told us that He was leaving His peace with us here, for us to have. When we are not praying about issues and submitting them to God this means He cannot fill us with His Peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that no matter what is happening on the outside our hearts are still and full of Joy. (John 14:27)
4)    We are less thankful
When you are constantly worrying you take the little things for granted like being safe, having food on the table, being blessed with a job etc… You find it difficult to be grateful for the little things or even the big things because you are too busy worrying about other issues. The Bible tells us to pray about everything and in every situation GIVE THANKS.
5)    Gods is Sovereign
If you are worrying you are missing who God really is, what He is capable of and what He promises us. He is all powerful and nothing is too big for Him, we need to start telling our problems how big our God is, not our God how big our problems are! (2 Corinthians 13:4) source here.

DO YOU WANT THE CHEQUE OR YOU PREFER THE CASH

A friend of mine narrated the story of what transpired among herself, her mother, and her brother and I learnt quite some lessons that I thought of sharing with you today. I am sure you could pick up some more lessons to share with us in the comment box. She went to her mum recently and there she saw her brother also visiting. After they had had all the interesting conversations, her brother was about leaving and decided to give some money to his mum. When he reached out to his pocket, he realised he had only GHC 500 which was far less than what he thought to give the mum. So, he took his cheque book, and signed an amount of GHC 2000 for the mother. When he gave the cheque to the mum, she refused taking it because she didn't want the cheque but the cash. However, the cheque was four times more than the cash he had with him. My friend, the woman's daughter, told her not to bother about the cash because the value of the cheque was far more and it wouldn't take her long to cash it. She still persisted. The mother then said, "I need money to buy items and not a cheque." I picked three lessons from the story.
1. She was ignorant of the value of the cheque
All the mother was interested in was the cash. She cared less how much the cheque had for her. Many times in life, we are ignorant of the value we carry as humans. We are ignorant of how valuable our talents, gifts, ideas, potential, etc. are. As such, we tend to reach out for the cheap things of life, rather than taking the pain to assess the worth of the value we carry. If she had been patient enough to know that the cheque had more for her than the physical cash, she wouldn't have opted for the cash. Do you know what you carry? Are you reaching for the "cheque" or you're going for the "cash"?
2. Self-gratification
I am sure she must have had a mental map of how long it would take her to go cash the cheque before getting the money she needed as against the option of going for the physical cash from her son. She wanted it quickly. Many of us young people today cannot wait for the promise of tomorrow. We want it all now. We will rather jump in for a job than take the pain of growing a thriving business; we would rather jump into a "hit and run" relationship than take the time to start and nurture a great love relationship. Today, most of us want quick money; no wonder we are witnesses to all the vices we see today. The greatest people of history aren't those who are short-term-minded. They are generational thinkers. The interesting thing is that, sometimes their dreams never come to pass in their lifetime; but they do well to sow the seeds to germinate into a mighty tree that would provide shade for the coming generation. Nothing kills potential than self-gratification. We see this clearly in the story of Jacob and Esau. If Esau could have waited just an hour to prepare a meal for himself, he wouldn't have sold his birthright for a bowl of lentils.
3. She refused to take advice
One of the greatest things that could cost you is when you think you know it all and refuse to take advice. No human, not one, is self-made. Everyone you see doing one thing or the other has gotten to wherever they are because of the advice they got from others which they assessed and if it was good, they used it to get better. Of course not every advice is good. You have to be wise to know which is good and bad. As we reach out for greater things, we would need advice from our parents, mentors, and others to make wise decisions. The fact that you're a boss doesn't mean you can't take advice from your "subordinates". It is sheer pride to refuse taking advice because you think you know it all.
4. Broaden your Horizon
The mother was ready to receive the physical cash perhaps because that was all she needed at the time to push her business. It could also mean that she had become "content" with the level of progress in her business. If perhaps she had bigger dreams of expanding the business, she would have considered carefully the other option of taking the cheque and not the cash. In life, as you climb the ladder of progress, you cannot afford to remain at your old position; you must move to higher heights. You must assess opportunities to expand. You must broaden your horizon and not be limited in your thinking.

5. Risk Taking

The mother was scared of the risk involved in cashing the cheque at the bank. All she thought was the time she will spend at the bank; having to stay in the winding queue. She felt she must have used that time to do something "more profitable." But what she failed to see in the bigger picture was the fact that "wasting" about two or three hours at the bank to cash the cheque would mean that she'll get four times the physical cash--an amount she might not be able to raise as profit over a period of say, two weeks or a month, considering taking the cash of 500 cedis. There are risks in life and one must assess their pros and cons to be able to take them.
6. Choices
The son knowing very well that he has purposed in his heart to give 2000 but was left with the choices of giving her the physical cash of 500 cedis and a cheque of 2000 cedis. However, he presented these two choices to the mother. The mother was torn between these choices.

Life is similar. Life will present you with choices and you will have to make the right choice out of the lot. People are going to leave you with choices and again, you must be the one to make the right choices.

You must present yourself with choices too and choose the best and right one(s) out of the lot. This could be called "creativity."
So, there are my three lessons from a simple narration from a friend. I am sure you've learnt something. My question to you, however is, in your daily, weekly and yearly endeavours, DO YOU WANT THE CHEQUE OR YOU PREFER THE CASH? Bro Jona

Health: Raw vegetables grown at your home

Without doubt, raw vegetables grown at your home can bring a number of benefits more than the bought ones from the grocery.
Even though it requires some time, the benefits you will feel are numerous. You will save your money and you can grow them indoors, you do not need to have a farm.
Use fresh scraps, and when re-growing the plants, ensure they have enough light and water.
1. Romaine Lettuce
Use the bottom of a lettuce head to grow new romaine lettuce. Put stumps of the romaine lettuce in a ½ inch water. After a few days, once new leaves and roots appear, transplant the romaine lettuce into soil. The leaves can grow up to twice the size. The same procedure can be done for
 re-growing cabbages.
 2. Bok Choy
Place the Bok Choy’s root ends in water in a well- lit area. After 1-2 weeks, transplant them to a pot that has soil, and a new head will grow.
3. Carrots
Carrot greens can be re-grown from carrot tops, you only need to put them in a dish with little water, and place the dish in a room that is well-lit or on a window sill. Although carrot greens are a bit bitter, if you chop them up together with garlic and sweeten with vinegar, they can add great flavor to your salads.
4. Basil
In order to re-grow your new basil plant, you should use basil cuttings. Put ones that have stems of 3-4 inches in a glass of water, and place them in direct sunlight. When the roots get to 2 inches long, transfer them to pots. With time, they will grow into full basil plants. Change the water constantly in order to avoid getting slimy basil plants.
5. Cilantro
If you place the stems of cilantro in a glass of water, they will grow. When the roots become long enough, transplant them to a pot with soil. Place them in a room with ample lighting and in a few months, your new plants will be fully grown.
6. Celery
Use the leftover celery bottom to re-grow your new celery plant.  Cut the base off and place it in a shallow bowl or saucer in the sun. The leaves will thicken and grow with time in the middle of the base. After three days, transfer it to soil.
7. Garlic
Garlic sprouts can be grown from the garlic clove. New garlic sprouts will have a milder flavor, and can be used as an addition to your salads, pasta, salads and other dishes. When they begin to sprout, you should place them in a glass with little water.read here.
8. Scallions
Re-grow scallions using their discarded roots. Leave an inch of the scallion attached to the root, put them in a glass of water and place it in a room that’s well-lit.
