One Thing the Holy Spirit Will Not Do

The Bible repeatedly tells us that God is our helper. The question is, do we really trust God to help us? It's easy to respond right away that we trust Him, but when it comes to practically applying this truth to our everyday life—leaning on the Holy Spirit to help us in every area of our lives—we often struggle to do it.
As born-again believers in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit—God's Spirit—lives in our spirit. In John 16:7, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is our "Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby)" and that He wants "to be in close fellowship" with us (AMPC).
It's so important for us to know that we can have a close, intimate relationship with the Holy Spirt, that He will communicate with us. I went to church for many years and had no idea that I could overcome my problems and live with real peace and joy because the Holy Spirit lived in my spirit. It was life-changing for me when I got the revelation that He wanted to lead me in God's will for my life and He would enable me to do everything I needed to do.
The truth is if we really believe God is our helper and He's willing to help us no matter what situation we're in, then we have no reason to worry or get overwhelmed.
I'll let you in on another secret: You need to ask God for help because the Holy Spirit is not the type to barge into your life and take over.
Have you ever had someone try to push their opinions or their agenda on you? They may or may not know what they're talking about, and they may not even be really interested in helping you do what needs to be done, but they sure have a lot to say about what you're doing wrong!
That's not what the Holy Spirit does.
The Holy Spirit knows the answer to every problem, and He will even help you through each one. But He won't give you His advice unless you ask for it. In other words, the humble get the help.
Every Problem Matters to God
Jesus said in John 15:5 (NIV), "Apart from me you can do nothing." And that's so true. But did you know He's not holding out on you? God actually likes it when we ask for His help. And God not only wants to help us with our big problems, He also wants to help us with the little things in life. That's wonderful news because sometimes we allow the little things to get us frustrated and upset. One of the best ways to go through the day is to pray often, "Help me, Lord. Help me. Help me!"
In the Psalms, we frequently see King David going to God for help. For example, Psalm 40:13 (MEV) says, "Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me!"
Notice that David was not only bold enough to ask God for help, but he was also confident that God would answer his prayers. We can learn from that too.
In Psalm 43:5, David says, "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I will yet give Him thanks, the salvation of my countenance and my God" (MEV).
You and I have so many opportunities to feel sad or discouraged and have a bad attitude, but God wants us to stay strong in Him, like David did. Those who do will eventually come out on top, because there's no way the enemy can hold you back if you will trust God and keep your hope in Him.
Learn How to Trust Your Helper
It's comforting to know God will help you get through the hard times of life. His grace and strength will sustain you while you're waiting for your breakthrough. Isaiah 41:10 says He will keep you strong and retain you with His victorious hand of rightness and justice (AMPC).
Even when you're tempted to think, It's not going to do me any good to pray after the way I've acted, don't let that stop you from asking for God's help. Because when you go to the Father in prayer, you don't go in your name—you go in the name of Jesus.
Hebrews 4:16 (MEV) says "Let us then come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." And Psalm 23:3 (AMPC) says, "He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him―not for my earning it, but] for His name's sake" (emphasis mine).
When you're hurting, in trouble, or waiting for answers in your life, you need to believe that your Helper, the Holy Spirit is with you and He wants to help you. Stay in close fellowship with Him and ask Him for the help you need.
No matter what the circumstances may look like, believe He's working on your behalf. He is your Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby—He's everything you need—and He's just waiting for you to ask.

Just speak NOW for thy Lord heareth

Some time ago, at about 2am, I suddenly woke up from sleep to an irritating sound. It was coming from somewhere near my bed and it was grating my nerves. I was almost sure it was a roach, scratching at some surface CONTINUOUSLY - Oh Lord, can't take it no more!
I wasn't interested in 'sniffing out' the roach and snuffing out its life, yet, I knew I could not stand the irritating sound it was making. And then, in a flash, I remembered church service the previous Sunday and the message that came from the pulpit. Pastor told us to DELIBERATELY SPEAK what we desire to see fulfilled in our lives in the new year. He told us to follow in the Master's steps and speak to things - animate or inanimate (e.g. Jesus spoke to the fig tree; He spoke to the storm too). He said the instruction is, "WHOSOEVER shall SPEAK to WHATSOEVER..."
So I decided to speak to the irritating roach. I turned to the angle where the sound was coming from and told the roach to be silent. I went to ease myself and came back to bed. Behold, there was silence, absolute silence! The grating noise stopped and I heard it no more.......
See, friends, words have tremendous power, there's no disputing that. The whole universe was created by words. When words are spoken, spiritual forces are released to take control of the physical by the power of/in the word. I bring you the same message I received: What do you want to see in 2016? What do you want to see even NOW? Start speaking and be deliberate about your choice of words.
"For assuredly, I say to you, whoever SAYS to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says." Mark 11:23 (NKJV-emphasis mine)
"Then God SAID, “Let there be light”; and there was light." Genesis 1:3 (NKJV-emphasis mine)
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
"(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and CALLS THOSE THINGS WHICH DO NOT EXIST AS THOUGH THEY DID..." Romans 4:17 (NKJV-emphasis mine)
"So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them." Isaiah 55:11 (MSG) - You share the nature of God, so you can speak as He does.

YOU ARE PROTECTED

A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Psalm 91:7
These days, reading the newspapers and listening to the news can be very frightening. Almost every news item seems designed to strike fear and terror into our hearts.
This kind of fear creates panic. Pretty soon, that kind of panic makes even reasonable people go crazy. We behave like Chicken Licken in the fairy tale: an acorn fell on his head. He went round screaming to all who would listen, 'the sky is falling; some of it fell on my head'.
God promises us protection. His promise of protection does not keep us from hearing and seeing trouble around us.
His promise of protection keeps us even through the troubles and turbulence round about us.
God's presence goes with us along the paths of danger and uncertainty. He is our shelter from the stormy blast and our eternal hope.
To live a happy life in this turbulent world, we must:
• Be constantly aware of God's presence. He is with us everywhere and never leaves us alone.
• Boldly claim God's protection. Know the promises of God concerning His protection and by faith, pray them into reality in
your life.
• Bypass our fears. When fear knocks on your door, let faith answer. Even when you are terrified, make the effort to bypass the fear and allow the promises of God to rule your heart.
Prayer: In the name of Jesus, I claim God's promises of safety and protection for myself and family.

GOD LOVES YOU

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
A number of years ago, Karl Barth, the famous German theologian, was lecturing at a major Northeaster Seminary.
At a Q& A session, a man asked Mr. Barth what's the most profound thought that ever entered his mind.
The man clearly expected to hear some philosophical comment from Mr. Barth. But the theologian looked at the man and simply said, "The most profound thought that has ever occurred to me is this: Jesus loves me. This I know, for the Bible tells me so."
You and I need to realize how remarkable the message of God's love truly is. It is simply profound and profoundly simple! And no other verse of Scripture summarizes His love for us as completely as John 3:16: "For God so loved the world..."
It is an undeniable fact. God loves you! The expression of His love is evident from the first page to the last of Scripture. But the greatest evidence of His love is Christmas.
God sent His only Son to die so that you will live. There is no greater love than that.
Enter the New Year with this confidence and assurance that God loves you unconditionally, and He wants to do great things with your life and for your life.
Prayer: Father, I enter the New Year with hope and expectations because I know You love me and You have prepared in advance great things for me.
Scriptural Reading: John 3:16-21

LET GOD'S WILL BE DONE

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. - James 4:13-14
The Bible doesn't condemn the person who makes plans for the future.
Rather, it criticizes the person who makes those plans with no thought whatsoever for the will of God. That is a dangerous thing to do. God will not share His glory with another.
There is nothing wrong with making plans. Paul told the believers in Ephesus that he would return for renewed ministry among them, "God willing" (Acts 18:21).
He wrote to the Corinthians that he planned another visit "if the Lord wills" (1 Corinthians 4:19).
On other occasions, Paul spoke of his plans to do certain things and how the Lord changed his plans. We have our plans. We have our purposes.
We have our agendas. But the Lord may redirect us. Jesus taught us to pray, "Your will be done" (Luke 11:2).
Our prayers will be effective and successful when we align our will with the will of God and pray accordingly.
Prayer is not getting our will done in heaven; it is getting God's will done on earth. It is not moving God our way; it is moving ourselves His way. It is not moving the hand of God; it is seeing the movement of the hand of God and moving with it.
Never be afraid to thrust an unknown future to a knowing God. His plans for you are better than any plans you have for yourself. So don't be afraid of God's will, even if it is different from yours.
Prayer: Father, Your will be done on earth and in my life.
Scriptural Reading: James 4:13-17

THIS IS A NEW DAY

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
It's easy to get stranded in life. That happens when for some reason, you come to a standstill in your life and find it difficult to move ahead. It happens to all of us. In fact, maybe today, you find yourself stranded in your own life.
Perhaps life has lost its energy for you. Perhaps you've settled for mediocrity. Mediocrity in your marriage; mediocrity with your Christian life, mediocrity in your career.
But God has so much more for you! He wants to do supernatural things in you, things you could never imagine. His promise to you today is firm and clear: "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
In other words, God is saying, "Look! Can't you see it? Can't you taste it? Can't you feel this new thing that I'm doing?"
He takes barren places and barren people and uses them for His glory when He does the brand new thing in their lives. And God wants to do something new in you. Give Him space in your life.
Open up to the Holy Spirit. When you do, He will take you out of the place where you have got stranded. He will move you out of mediocrity and make your life exciting.
Can you see the great things He has in store for you? Look, He is about to do something new in your life today. Reach out. Touch Him. Take His hand and let Him walk you into new places. This is a new day for you.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the great things You want to do with my life.
Scriptural Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21

ACCEPT GOD'S SOLUTION

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, for His mercy endures forever." - 2 Chronicles 20:21
Christians almost universally agree, "God answers prayer." But many people, if they were honest, would amend the phrase to say, "The Lord answers most prayers, but not mine."
A believer can fervently call upon God without receiving what he considers a -satisfactory answer. The stumbling block isn't God's unwillingness or inability to respond, but rather our unwilling to accept His solution.
If we come to God with a pre -conceived idea of how to solve our problem, we will likely overlook His true solution.
Suppose King Jehoshaphat had decided that God could answer his prayer only by giving the army extra strength for the forthcoming skirmish. He would have called a war council, arrayed his soldiers in armour, and set up battle lines.
God's solution was entirely unexpected: First, send the choir out singing praises, then watch the Lord save Israel. If Jehoshaphat's soldiers had attempted combat, they would have lost Jerusalem.
Sometimes, we don't like God's solution. We desire freedom from physical pain rather than an extra measure of grace to endure the hurt.
Or we want a new job, not a command to seek the boss' forgiveness for our poor attitude. In essence, we want the Lord to fix everything without requiring any effort from us.
But our willingness to obey is key to answered prayer. When He tells us how to resolve our problems, we must act just as He specifies, or we will never experience victory.
Prayer: Father, all Your ways are perfect. Show me Your ways.
Scriptural Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:14-25

BE JOYFUL

But at midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. - Acts 16:25
Paul wrote extensively about spiritual joy, which had been tested and proven in his life through the "fires" of beatings, rejections, and arrests.
As he sat in the Philippian jail, the apostle demonstrated what is possible for any surrendered believer: biblical joy through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
We can lose our gladness for several reasons:
• Wrong focus. Paul and Silas were able to praise God despite severe trials because they centered on Jesus. Concentrating on our difficulties will cause delight to disappear. Refocusing through praise will bring it back.
• Disobedience. Sin steals our joy because it separates us from the Lord. As we receive His forgiveness and obey Him, joy returns.
• Regret. We crowd out gladness when we continue to feel bad about past mistakes and failures.
Our Father wants us to believe that He forgives us (1 John 1:9). He also desires that we choose to live in His grace and move ahead.
• Fear. Too often, we attempt to live out the future before it happens. With so much outside our control, we become afraid.
Joy and fear cannot coexist. The Lord calls us to live by faith, asking Him to meet today's needs and trusting Him with the future.
• Someone else's suffering. How can we rejoice when others are hurting?
Romans 12:15 says we are to weep with them, but we are also to offer the hope of God's presence, power and provision. A downcast spirit is a poor witness for hope.
What excuse have you been using for your lack of joy?
Prayer: I bind and cast out anything that takes away my joy, in Jesus' name.
Scriptural Reading: Acts 16:16-34

YOU ARE QUALIFIED

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. - 2 Corinthians 4:7
A little girl was asked in her Sunday school class who a saint was. Thinking of the saints in stained glass windows, she replied, "Oh, those are the people the light shines through."
She was right. That is exactly what a saint is: someone whom the light shines through.
Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
According to Scripture, a saint is one who shines forth the glory of God. When the Lord Jesus rose from the dead and wanted to send forth the Good news to the world, He commissioned 12 disciples.
They didn't have modern technology to help them reach their culture, yet in a relatively short period of time, they reached their ancient world. And they did so primarily through word of mouth, person-to-person, telling others about Christ.
When we think of these great men of God, it is hard for us to think of them as human beings. But when we read their stories in Scripture, they are very candid and honest.
We see their shortcomings and missteps and even their sins. I think the reason for this is so we can see that God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people.
These men that God used were quite ordinary. They weren't superheroes. They were very human. God did not call them because they were great.
Rather, their greatness came as a result of the call of God. God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. God has already qualified you.
Are you willing to be used by God?
Prayer: Thank You Lord, for putting such treasure in this earthen vessel.
Scriptural Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:7-15

Prayer For The New Week

The Almighty God will never leave nor forsake you at anytime of your life. God will rewrite your story this month in Jesus name. The ground you walk shall produce Abundance, the sky above you shall rain down Blessings, the Breeze around you shall blow Peace and everything shall work well for you in Jesus name.
"And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace."

Relationship: 8 Things You're Doing for Women Other Than Your Wife

"Is it possible that I could be doing certain things for the women I encounter each day, but I'm not
doing them for my wife?"
The short answer is yes, but let's talk more about the reasons why this might be happening.
You don't need to read this article to know that marriage relationships are typically very strong at the beginning. The feeling of fresh love is in the air, the desire for intimacy is strong and the overall feelings from each spouse are mutual.
That's old news for most of us.
But here's where it gets interesting. Here's where the true challenge comes up in marriage. Ready?
Time. As time passes, things happen, stories unfold and the relationship takes its hits. Most couples can expect this, but few know what's actually happening or, worse, how to resolve it.
Here are 3 reasons why men start to take a back seat in their marriage and forget what is most important:
1. Routine. Routines in marriage are going to happen. It's inevitable. But the couples that are aware of it are the ones who have the best chance of survival. As time goes on and routines take more and more shape, it's important to not forget what is important to each spouse and take action in those areas often.
2. Assumptions. We all know the saying about assumptions, so I won't go there, but it does hold true. Newly married couples love to do wonderful things for their spouse, but after a few years, those things tend to fade.
Assumptions are different than routines. An assumption means you know what would be nice to do for your spouse and then assume they don't need it. Or assume that doing it last week was enough. What we need to do is assume that the love tank is always going dry and therefore always needs to be filled up!
3. A rough past. Rough circumstances in a marriage can be the worst effect of all. Routines can be adjusted, assumptions can take place because of a lack of understanding or communication, but a rough past can put a large "STOP" sign in front of any nice gestures to your spouse.
In other words, you know what your spouse needs, but you refuse to give it to them. Too many past issues have come up and too many are unresolved.
All of these scenarios can be resolved, but they can have some major negative effects in the meantime. One of the worst effects is doing things for other women that you won't do for your wife anymore, either by choice or simple neglect.
Because of the issues mentioned above, here are 8 things you might be doing for women other than your wife:
Let me also insert here that doing these things for other women is not wrong, because we should always strive to be respectful to all women. The issue is when you are treating other women better than you are treating your wife. Your wife should be getting this kind of treatment first and foremost.
1. Holding the door open. You may call it old-school or cliche, but holding the door open for your wife will mean a lot to her. Don't just step up when you see a stranger coming or a co-worker in need; make sure your wife gets even better treatment.
2. Thanking them for their help or services. It might be easy to thank the nice woman at the checkout line or even affirm a co-worker for their help, but your wife also needs to know her help is noticed and appreciated! Pay attention to what your wife does for you and speak up in thankfulness more often.
3. Valuing their choices and opinions. You may not always agree with your wife's choices or opinions, but as her husband, you need to take more effort in understanding why she might be making those decisions. Think about some recent conversations with other women. We're you more likely to agree or disagree with them? Be honest.
4. Admiring their beauty. When you are away from your wife, are you able to keep your eyes and heart in check? When you see an attractive woman, are you more likely to look away or look in places that you shouldn't? Those answers are for you, but I want you to consider why you don't look at your wife that way. Why isn't she your standard? Make her your standard of physical and emotional beauty, and you might have an easier time when you're not around her.
5. Thinking before you speak. When I'm at work and I need to approach a woman, I tend to think about my choice of words before I speak. And not only that, but I tend to choose my words more carefully during conversation. Is this the case with your wife? Strive to be a mature husband who thinks before he speaks.
6. Honestly listening. Staying in line with No. 5, listening skills are a must for a great marriage. Think about the last time you were with friends. Were you more likely to be rude and not engage in listening to the conversations? Or were you listening intently so that you would be part of the group. Well, make sure your wife is part of the group. Make sure you are paying attention to her words and responding to them, and not just waiting for your turn to talk.
7. Smiling. Yes, smiling. Around friends or even co-workers, I can find myself keeping a consistent smile on my face. Not to look weird, but to make the other person feel welcomed and comfortable. Do you do this around your wife? Think about keeping a smile on your face the next time you have a regular conversation with her. When she asks why you're smiling, tell her how much you love her!
8. Having fun. If I happen to be in a situation where I start running into the same woman day after day or week after week, I can start to get comfortable with her. Even if I don't know her, it becomes easy to say hi and then add some little jokes here or there. It seems harmless, but it starts to matter if you're doing it for them and not your wife. A good marriage can handle a little bit of joking and teasing (within reason). Have fun with your wife again this week.
Dig deep and make sure you are not treating other women better than your wife. Make sure your wife is getting the attention she needs from you. Take action this week.
Question: Which one of these steps do you need to take action on in your own marriage today?

KEEP MOVING!

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works. . . ." Revelation 2:5
When we hear the word "backslider," we think of someone who completely abandons their faith and turns their back on God. And certainly a person who does this could be classified as a backslider.
But do you know that there might be some people who are backsliding and aren't even aware of it? No one plans on backsliding. You don't wake up one day and decide. No, that is not what happens.
Backsliding happens subtly, and often it happens gradually. In fact, it may be so subtle that you may not even know that it is actually taking place.
The Bible warns about this and tells us that one of the signs of the end times is that people will fall away from the faith (1 Timothy 4:1).

God says that if we have backslidden, we should return to Him ( Jeremiah 3:22). And Jesus told the church in Ephesus, "Remember therefore from where you have fallen" (Revelation 2:5).
Are you in a fallen state today? Are you in the process of backsliding? You are either going forward in Christ, or you are going backward. You are either progressing, or you are regressing.
And the moment you put your walk with Christ into neutral, you will find yourself going in the wrong direction. So don't rest on your laurels. Don't live in the past. We need to be constantly growing as followers of Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, help me move forward in my walk with You.
Scriptural Reading: Revelation 2:5
