IN HIS STRENGTH

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Ephesians 6:10

Just as police officers call for back-up when they sense that danger is imminent, the first thing we must realize about spiritual battle is that in our own strength, we are no match for the devil.

I think a healthy respect of our adversary is in order for believers today. We don't want to underestimate him, nor do we want to overestimate him. We want to accurately assess who he is and what his abilities are.

We need to recognize that he is powerful; we don't want to try and take him on in our own strength.

Sometimes, you hear some preachers calling the devil silly little names, laughing at him, or making jokes about him.

But we must remember what Jude 9 says: "Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, 'The Lord rebuke you!'"

Even the high-ranking Archangel Michael did not dare to condemn the devil with mockery. He simply said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

There was a respect of the enemy. - The reason we need to "be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" is that, Satan wants to get us away from that. It is our power base.

He wants to separate us from God, because the moment he gets us away from Him, we become an easy prey. Thus, the devil wants to put a wedge between God and us.

The only power that can defeat Satan is the power of Jesus Christ. Be strong in the Lord. Stay close to Him. Never let anything come between you and the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, draw me closer to you so that I will be strong in you and in the power of your might.

HIS TRIUMPH IS YOUR STRENGTH

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Jesus lived on earth and experienced the limitations and challenges of human life. He faced the same temptations any young man his age faced yet he was without sin.

After his baptism and forty days of fasting, he had to deal with the temptations of the flesh, ambition and self-glory.

• He knows the feelings and appetites of the human body. Jesus did not live in a heavenly cocoon that minimized his temptations.

If anything, his temptations were more severe than ours because the tempter had a greater commitment to destroying him.

He lived in a human body for thirty-three years and as a young male, all his male instincts were at work yet mastered his impulses and did not allow them to rule his life.

• He related to people who did not like him. Jesus might have felt the desire to get even with his enemies.

Many times, his enemies set traps for him and made his life difficult but even whilst they were crucifying him, he forgave them.

• He was under pressure to take shortcuts to success. Jesus knew what his life's goal was but also knew the price he had to pay to accomplish what he came to the earth for.

In the garden of Gethsemane, he came under intense pressure to compromise on the process through which he would realize his destiny, yet he prayed to the Father, 'not my will but yours be done'.

The Lord Jesus understands our weaknesses, and is able to help us overcome all the temptations of the devil.

Prayer: Thank You, for sharing my experiences so that I can share in Your strength.

LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE LORD

It is a very common sight to get to my parent’s house and meet my mum praising God. Anyone who ventured into the house or the room she was in at that point in time was enlisted for that praise session. She would appoint unto herself a time frame of say 30 minutes or 1-hr of praise. The most common was 100 praise songs. Through my mum, I've learned the art and act of praise. It is quite easy to praise God when all is well. What about when things are not going according to plan? Or when there is a big problem on ground? During periods of crisis is when my mum amazes me the most. When everyone is weeping over something that has happened and it seems the world has come to an end, my mum would round us up in the sitting room, and start her praise session, which we've all come to term ‘Mummy’s praise school’. While we are busy crying and wiping our eyes, my mum would start praising God with her eyes tightly shut and her tambourine in her hands. After some time, one by one, we tire of the tears and join her in praise. At first weakly and then with gathered strength; I testify today that there is no battle that can withstand the power of praise. Praise is a very sure weapon that can’t ever fail. The bible says God inhabits our praise, so whatever issue we bring praise into, we automatically have brought God into it. Employ the weapon of praise, reap the spoils of ‘war’.
Psalm 100
A Psalm of praise.
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
(KJV)
THOUGHT: LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE LORD
PRAYER:  Praise is a deep understanding of God. Father pls help me in an inconvenient situation to praise instead of tears.

WORLDLY DISTRACTIONS

Do not love this world or the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 1 John 2:15

Imagine being mentioned by name in one of the epistles written by Paul. Not only was Demas mentioned, but he was mentioned twice.

First, Paul wrote in Philemon, "Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings. So do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my co-workers" (1:23-24)

Then Paul mentioned him a second time: "Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica" (2 Timothy 4:10).

So why would Demas leave Paul? Because he loved this present world. He loved the things of this life. The Bible says, "Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world" (1 John 2:15-16).

When the Bible speaks of the world, it is speaking of a culture, a mentality that is hostile to God.

In the Parable of the Sower, where Jesus talked about the seed of God's Word that was choked out by thorns, those thorns represent "the worries of this life and the lure of wealth" (Matthew 13:22).

So don't allow the things of this world to detract you. "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added to you."

Affirmation: Affirm your love to the Lord; ask for His grace to turn your back to the world.
