Jasper to stop Nigeria's oil leaks from oil pipelines
He is from Nigeria and has seen how leaks from oil pipelines pollute the coast. The diver and the engineer took his PhD at the University of Stavanger, Norway to help his country with a new invention, a leak detector .
Jasper Agbakwuru takes us down into the basement to Innova AS Lura,
Sandnes. Here he tests out the prototype that he hopes will help Nigeria
and other nations to stop leaks from a number of punctured oil pipeline. The
invention may soon become interesting for Norwegian oil and gas industry.
It is a well known problem that the pipes that carry oil over land and
under water in Nigeria are drilled and tapped for the valuable oil. Thieves
does not clog the holes behind them. This leads to devastation and costs
of the Nigerian nation.
Recently, the Agency reported that thieves walk away with 20 percent of
Nigeria's oil production.
Put dive buddies die
Jasper Agbakwuru is an engineer and diver. In his homeland he has
seen diving buddies die in the attempt to locate such oil leaks in the water
along the coast that are turbid because of sand and clay. He has
personally experienced how impossible it is to find a hole and describe the
leak in a pipe when one can not see, and must feel his way to the hole with
your fingers.
This was part of the motivation for applying to Norway and University
of Stavanger. There he took his doctorate in May last year. Together
with Professor Ove Tobias Gudmestad he has developed a leak detector, a tool to
detect, inspect and repair leaks under water - for example olje_ and gas
pipelines.
The invention will he tested out as an employee of
Innova AS.
The way from
PhD documents to a prototype of a leak detector was funded with support of
Shell, which is one of the companies that produce oil off the coast of Nigeria
and other parts of the business community in Oslo, the Norwegian Research
Council and Prekubator TTO. Through
Prekubator Jasper has also signed licensing agreements with underwater
equipment company Innova.
Cases airspace around the camera eye
Down in the
workshop of Innova he has a tank with pipes. In one of the tubes is a leak. With the naked eye
it is impossible to see the clear water flows into the clear water.
Jasper Agbakwurus invention is a
camera mounted on a clamp. When he squeezes it together
around the pipe and blow air down through a tube, it is an air space between
the camera and pipes. This enables
the camera to send clear photos of the pipe and leak to a screen up on the
hill.
The market is there
Eve magazine
present the same day as Jasper Agbakwuru demonstrates leak detector for
representatives of Oceaneering. Trond
Jacobsen and Jan Ove Austrheim follow attentively when Jasper Agbakwuru says.
Technical
Director Alf-Kristian Aadland in Innova says to Eve magazine that the company
sees opportunities in innovative projects like this:
- I think
it's exciting, and we see the potential in the market. Our role will be to develop the project further
and find cooperation actors, says Aadland.

Missing Malaysia Airlines Plane 'Ended in the Southern Indian Ocean'
New satellite data reveals
that missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 "ended" its journey in a
"remote location" of the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysian Prime
Minister Najib Razak said today.
"This
is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with
deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new
data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean," a somber Razak
said during a media briefing.
The
jet vanished March 8 with 289 people on board after it took off from Kuala
Lampur bound for Beijing.
The
announcement follows weeks of searches that spanned the South China Sea, Strait
of Malacca and finally the south Indian Ocean off of Australia as authorities
tried to figure out what happened to the plane.
The new information came
from British satellite maker Inmarsat, which used a new type of analysis never
before used to try and pinpoint the plane's last known location, Razak said.
"[Inmarsat]
has been performing calculations on the data using type of analysis never
before used in an investigation of this sort and they have been able to shed
more light on MH370. Based on the new analysis, Inmarsat and the (British)
Accidents Investigation Branch have concluded that MH370 flew along the
southern corridor and that it's last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean,
west of Perth," Razak said.
He
noted that Malaysia Airlines had already been in touch with the families of the
289 people on board, saying that he knew the past few weeks had been
"heartbreaking" for them and that this latest development must be
harder still.
Earlier
today, an Australian plane spotted two objects described as gray or green and
"circular" as well as orange and "rectangular" in the
search area off Australia's coast.
Other
search crews had spotted "suspicious objects" in the Indian Ocean
over the weekend -- including items believed to be wooden pallets. The
Malaysian government said that the missing Boeing 777-200 had been carrying
wooden pallets, were not yet sure whether the pallets matched.
No
wreckage has yet to be recovered.
Investigators
are still trying to determine what happened to the plane after it took off
around midnight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, headed for Beijing, China. It
disappeared off the radar shortly after 1 a.m. but continued to fly, according
to satellite data, for up to seven hours.
Malaysian
authorities are considering the possibilities of hijacking, sabotage, terrorism
or issues related to the mental health of the pilots.
Our prayers and thought from Adenike Salako Blog's World, goes to the Families and Friends, may Lord Comfort you all. RIP to the lost souls.

Cell phone safety is an important issue in today’s world.
Everyone knows that they’re dangerous. But exactly how
dangerous? We don’t know yet, but they are dangerous.
It is a common habit today that when we sleep we place our mobile phone under our pillow. Experts
are saying it is not safe to sleep with your phone under your pillow. The reasons are not far-fetched.
Here is what experts are saying.
Study shows that sleeping next to your mobile phones
are extremely dangerous due to its harmful radiation.
This is the primary cause of +Brain +Cancer .
Do you know that most cell phones have about 884 MHz wireless signals when it is on? This simply means that your phone is constantly emitting radiation all the time when you on it? So what do you think about it?
Do you know that most cell phones have about 884 MHz wireless signals when it is on? This simply means that your phone is constantly emitting radiation all the time when you on it? So what do you think about it?
Studies have shown that if you keep your cell phone close
to you for a period of very long time, it will cause headache, muscle pain, or
cancer if it is serious. It is not a guaranteed that you will get these
illnesses if you do that. However, it greatly increases the probability of
getting it.
The “under the pillow” angle of cell phone radiation
is just a subset of a larger discussion on the topic of cell phone radiation in
general.
Though there is some evidence to support harmful
effects of cell phone use on the brain, the jury is out on brain cancer or brain
tumors and cell phone use. Studies have not shown a consistent link between
cell phone proximity and cancer, however there has been some suggestion of a
link between cell phones and brain and central nervous system tumors. Under
your pillow is probably not the best place to keep your cell phone while you
are sleeping. Get a cheap digital alarm clock at the dollar store and put it on
your nightstand.
Children are especially vulnerable to radiation, the
report recommends that parents not allow their children under the age of 10 to
use mobile phones except in emergencies, or to sleep with cellular phones under
their pillows.
It recommends using corded land lines whenever
possible, and using cellular phones mostly as answering machines, turning them
on only to check messages and return calls. Use of cell phones inside buildings
or in cars increases cancer risk, as it increases the radiation a phone must
emit to function. Use of text messages and non-wireless headsets can reduce
cancer risk. The report also advises against carrying cell phones against the
body, even in pockets.
*Ways to Reduce Cell Phone Radiation.
*Using speaker instead of talking directly into the handset.
*Using speaker instead of talking directly into the handset.
*Text instead of talking.
*Use headphones or Bluetooth connectors.
*If you are using your phone at night for its clock or alarm features, consider putting it in “airplane mode” which *suspends the phone’s transmission functions.

World’s longest sea bridge opens in China…Cost less than a billion pounds(PHOTOS)
China has opened the world’s longest cross-sea bridge – which stretches five miles further than the distance between Dover and Calais.
The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is
26.4 miles long and links China’s eastern port city of Qingdao to the offshore
island Huangdao.
The road bridge, which is
110ft wide and is the longest of its kind, cost nearly £1billion to build.
Chinese TV reports said the
bridge passed construction appraisals on Monday and it, along with an undersea
tunnel, would be opened for traffic today.
It took four years to build
the bridge, which is supported by more than 5,000 pillars across the bay, and
it is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder – the Lake
Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana.
That structure features two
bridges running side by side and is 23.87 miles long.
The three-way Qingdao
Haiwan Bridge is 174 times longer than London’s Tower Bridge, spanning the
River Thames, but cuts only 19 miles off the drive from Qingdao to Huangdao.
Two separate groups of
workers have been building it from different ends of the structure since 2006.
After linking the two ends
of the bridge on December 22, one engineer said: ‘The computer models and
calculations are all very well but you can’t relax until the two sides are
bolted together.
Even a few centimeters out
would have been a disaster.’
The engineering feat will
only hold the record as the longest sea bridge for a few years – it will be
beaten by another Chinese bridge in the next decade.
Last December officials
announced workers had begun constructing a bridge to link southern Guangdong
province with Hong Kong and Macau.
Set to be completed in
2016, officials said the £6.5billion Bridge will span nearly 30 miles.
It will be designed to cope
with earthquakes up to magnitude 8.0, strong typhoons and the impact of a
300,000 tonne vessel.
But both structures will
still be dwarfed by the longest bridge in the world, also in China.
The Danyang-Kunshan Grand
Bridge is an astonishing 102 miles in length.

Malaysian Missing Jet: claim relatives Passengers’ phones are still ringing
Relatives of passengers aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines flight
MH370 claimed that they were able to call cell phones of their loves ones,
according to media reports.
The Washington Post said that the families of some of the 239 people
onboard the missing Boeing 777 claimed to have heard the mobile ringtones.
“In some cases, the relatives could see them active online through a
local Chinese networking site called QQ,” the Post reported.
The eerie development comes even as Malaysian authorities described
MH370′s disappearance an unprecedented mystery.
One man told the Washington Post that his brother-in-law’s QQ account
indicated that he was online.
Frustratingly for those desperate for some news or sign, messages have
gone unanswered and calls were not picked up.
Search and rescue (SAR) operation involving 10 countries has so far
failed to find any trace of the missing airliner.
Britain’s Daily Mail reported that the phantom phone calls and online
presence had set off a new level of hysteria among relatives and next-of-kin,
most of whom have spent three days cooped up at a Beijing Hotel waiting for
news on the missing plane.
MAS officials in Beijing have been told repeatedly about the QQ accounts
and ringing telephone calls, and relatives are hoping that SAR forces will be
able to triangulate the GPS signals of the phones to locate their loved ones.
Bian Liangwei, sister of one of the passengers aboard MH370, claimed
that she was able to reach her elder brother’s phone.
“This morning, around 11:40am, I called my older brother’s number twice,
and I got the ringing tone,” she told the International Business Times.
At 2pm, Bian called again and again heard its ring tone.
“If I could get through, the police could locate the position, and there
is a chance he could still be alive,” she said.
However, at a press conference in Beijing, MAS spokesman Ignatius Ong
said one of the numbers provided to the airline’s head office in Kuala Lumpur
had failed to get through.
“I myself have called the number five times while the airline’s command
centre also called the number. We got no answering tone,” Ong said.
Search for the missing plane has now moved to the Straits of Malacca,
some 100 miles away from where it was last recorded by electronic monitoring
devices.
The dramatic shift raises the possibility that it flew undetected,
crossing mainland Malaysia, before ditching into the sea.
MAS said Malaysia’s western coast near the Straits of Malacca was now
the focus of the hunt.
Civil aviation chief Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, however, said the
statement didn't imply authorities believed the plane was off the western
coast.
“The search is on both sides,” he said.
The plane was carrying 239 people when it vanished off radar screens
early Saturday morning en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, triggering a
massive international search effort.
Authorities have expanded their search to include areas where the plane
could have in theory ended up given the amount of fuel it had on board.
On Sunday, Malaysia’s air force chief said military radar indicated that
the jet might have turned back before disappearing. – March 11, 2014.

The African Redeemed Church of God preaches the gospel in US
For centuries, European and American missionaries have gone to Africa to spread the word of Christ. That trend is now working in reverse, with a Nigerian minister in Texas who plans to build churches as numerous as Starbucks coffee shops.
Drive an hour north-east of Dallas, and you will find yourself staring
off into a barren, flat horizon. One out-of-place building rises above the
landscape: a 10,000-seat auditorium.
It is the centrepiece for the Redeemed Christian Church of God in North
America, a Pentecostal movement that started in Nigeria in 1952.
It is one of Africa's largest and most influential Christian movements,
claiming more than five million followers worldwide, mostly in Nigeria.
Pastor James Fadele, who runs the Church in North America, said God told
the Church's leader Enoch Adeboye that its North American headquarters would be
founded near Dallas - but not where, and not when.
Then, Fadele said, a white man in Texas had a vision.
"God told him, 'The land doesn't belong to you, it belongs to a
group of church people,'" Fadele said. "'When you meet them, I will
let you know who they are.'"
Fadele, a short man with a booming voice, said a few Redeemed Church
members were eating at a local restaurant when they were approached by the
white man.
The man told them God had asked him to buy a patch of land, but that the
Church was the owner.
"They accepted it, they paid the check, and the rest, as they say,
is history," said Fadele with a laugh.
That divine spot is Floyd, Texas, an unincorporated community with a
population of 220. Church leaders have grand plans for the property, which now
spans 700 acres (283ha): a university, sports complex, even a golf course.
Fadele radiates with excitement describing his vision for future events
at the auditorium: "Crazy people for Jesus, people who are in love with
Jesus, shouting 'hallelujah', praising Jesus, having prayer vigils, having fun,
giving each other high-fives."
Fadele's goal is to establish a church within every 10 miles (16km) in
North America, to take as many people as possible to heaven.
"Because heaven is real, God is real," he said. "And that
is why we want to plant churches like Starbucks."
At a recent Sunday morning service at a parish in Melrose,
Massachusetts, just north of Boston, about 120 people were gathered, larger
than the average Redeemed Church congregation. Once parishes start to gain much
size, they quickly split to create more branches - the church's growth strategy.
Redeemed leaders say there are 720 churches in North America, nearly
double from four years ago, and they claim 15,000 members in the US.
Ruth Marshall with the University of Toronto, who studies Christian
movements in Africa and has studied the Redeemed Church, said its aggressive
plans stem from its leader and guiding force, Enoch Adeboye in Nigeria.
"He really wants to be an important global player," said
Marshall. "One could say that he's almost obsessed with this logic of
church planting because for him it's an index of success. And also,
prosaically, because the more parishes there are, the wealthier the central
organisation."
Each pastor, she said, must send 20% of tithes, offerings and other
funds to the headquarters in Nigeria.
The US - where Pentecostalism began - holds special appeal to Church
leaders who believe in a manifest Christian destiny from Africa.
At the church service in Melrose, their passion for their mission was
clear. People were dancing in the aisles, hugging, and breaking into conga
lines. The public address system was cranked way up. People sang with arms
outstretched and eyes tightly shut. The place was rocking.
These are Pentecostal Christians who believe strongly in faith healing
and miracles and speak in tongues to connect with the Holy Spirit. There were
young and old in attendance. Children were downstairs in their own service and
toddlers were running around the lobby.
Nearly all Redeemed Church members in Massachusetts, as well as in most
North American locations, are Nigerian or African immigrants. For the church to
grow, they'll need a lot more non-Africans. That's proven challenging.
Marshall of the University of Toronto said the children of
African-immigrant churchgoers are less interested in attending the Redeemed Church,
preferring congregations more relevant to their lives.
Back in Floyd, Texas, Pastor James Fadele is not discouraged. He says it
will take some time, but they will connect with the greater community, perhaps
by renting out the huge auditorium for weddings and rodeos.
He said when people learn they are genuine, they'll join his church.
"I'm not saying all the churches in America are fake," he
said. "But... we have come all the way from Africa. We are engaging the
people to show them the true Gospel, making sure that people are being saved
and people are making it to heaven."

World Bank to spend $80m on Redeemer University, 9 others
World Bank is set to spend at least $80m on 10 Africa
Center of Excellence (ACE), in Nigeria.
World Bank Lead Economist Africa Education, Mr.
Andreas Blom, stated this Monday, at a meeting of World Bank with 10 ACE, in
Abuja.
He said the World Bank would build African capacity to
solve Africa problems.
The 10 universities that were selected in Nigeria
included, Redeemer University Mowe, Ogun state\ University of Ibadan, Ibadan
(Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomic of Infectious Diseases, ACGID),
African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, Pan African Material
Institute, PAMI), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (centre for
Agricutural Development and Sustainable Environment), Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria (Center of Excellence on Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic
Biotechnology), University of Jos (Phytomemedicine Research and Development,
ACEPRD), University of Benin (Center for Excellence in Reproductive Health and
Innovation), and University of Port-Harcourt (ACE Center for oil field
Chemicals).
Due to the number of excellent proposals from Nigeria,
three more universities were added they were, Obafemi Awolowo University,
Ile-Ife (knowledge Park: A model for National Science Technology and Knowledge
Park Initiative) STEM, Bayero University, Kano (African Centre of Excellence in
Dryland Agriculture and Benue State University, Makurdi (Centre for Food
Technology and Research (CEFTER) – Agriculture.
He said it was rather unfortunate that none of the
African University is one of the first 500 universities in the world. And hope
that soon the story would change.
He identified poverty as a major challenge in relation
to food wastage, storage and health related challenges.
And he hoped that by the time ACE is able to engage
the continent, at least 25 universities in the continent would make the first
500 ranking in the world universities.
He stressed the importance of working together with
World Bank through commitment and hardship.
“For Nigeria to have 10 out of 18 Centers of ACEs, it
shows its clear leadership in the continent” he said.
The Executive Secretary of National Universities
Commission, NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, in his address said ACE project was
initiated. In 2013 by the governments of Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso,
Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo, with support from World Bank.
He said the project is meant to build capacity in
competitively selected institutions to produce in-demand highly and applied
research, and secondly to facilitate rapid development within the African
sub-region through the strengthening of Centres of Excellence by way of
collaborations and partnering in the sharing of talents, skilled labour and
higher education services.
“Under the ACE programmer, grants of up to US$8
million would be awarded to winning proposals, from various institutions across
Africa consisting of a lead institution and collaborating partners. The primary
focus would be on science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),
Health Sciences and Agricultural Sciences.
A total of 55 proposals were received, all of which
were carefully evaluated by a team of experts assembled by NUC”. Okojie said. 247nigerianewsupdate.com

Popular Christian Singer: Darlene Zschech Finishes First Round of Chemo to Treat Breast Cancer
Darlene Zschech, the former Hillsong worship leader who is battling
breast cancer, posted an update Friday, saying she has finished her first round
of chemo and has five to go.
“I am coming to the end of
round one of chemo (I have 5 to go) and all I can say is, ‘Grace, grace and
more grace,’ ”
Zschech announced she had
cancer at the end of December. She wrote on her blog at that time that she has
experienced two miracles in her body before and has confidence there will be
more to come.
Zschech served as the
worship pastor at Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia, for more than 10 years
before co-pastoring another church with her husband, Mark. The couple has led
Hope Unlimited Church on the central coast of New South Wales since 2011.
Zschech has been writing
about her journey since her announcement at the end of last year. She reported
last week that she lost hair, which she says has been “very confronting.”
“It definitely makes me
look sicker than I feel. In saying that, I am finding great freedom through
this,” she wrote, adding that her husband and daughters have been a comfort to
her.
Though it has been “quite a
ride on an emotional roller,” she wrote, “I can say that through it all, I am
assured of God’s love for me. Truly this has been one of the sweetest parts of
the journey. My beautiful Emmanuel is never far away."
“Our Friends, family and
our beloved church family are amazing every day,” she continued. “I’m ever
convinced that life was always designed to be done in true community. Good days
and bad days yet always better together.”
Zschech says she has been
spending time writing songs and thoughts, which she will share when she is “on
the other side of the mountain.”
“In fact, we are already
planning a Thanksgiving service at our church in November," she wrote in
her blog post, "where we will record songs birthed during this season. We
simply want to fill the place with praise for all that God has done.”
The singer-songwriter says
she has also been enjoying redesigning her home.
Congregation worships nud*, (Like Seriously)
SOUTHAMPTON, VA (WWBT) -
About an hour's drive south
of Richmond, there's a small congregation that doesn't care about
"material" things. They worship the same way we were all brought into
this world, naked.
Even in February, when
temperatures can average in the 20s, members show up in various forms: some
fully clothed, others topless, many still completely nude.
Pastor Allen Parker says
it's not about the clothes, or lack thereof. He says it's about baring his soul
to Christ and leading his flock down that path of righteousness, no matter what
they're wearing.
Every Sunday in the front
few rows of White Tail Chapel, you'll find Katie and Robert Church. Katie
wasn't a nudist when they first met, but quickly fell in love with both Robert
and the resort. They married at White Tail Chapel and say the church has given
them a sense of Christian community with none of the pretense of a traditional
church.
"Once we were married,
and we were here, this whole place became our family," said Katie Church.
"I feel like I can turn to anyone in this church, or even in this park,
and they will be there to help me."
"People are more open
as far as hearing the word of God, and speaking the word of God," agreed
Robert Church.
If you think anyone here
finds church attendance titillating, you'd be wrong. They're here to find inner
peace and Pastor Parker believes that starts with accepting themselves.
"There's not a feeling
that you have to be better than one another, physically," Pastor Parker
said. "We're humans, we have scars, and we have what we have…it's learning
to love and accept that." More wnem.com
