Discern This Time!

TEXT: LUKE 12:49-59
KEY VERSE: “And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:54,56).
Our Lord, Jesus Christ knew that our present generation would be preoccupied with quest for knowledge of the present and future. He knew that man’s scientific and technological apparatus would be inadequate to answer these concerns. He mocked the short-lived power of those who could predict a rain but could not foresee the revival of righteousness which He brought.
The Bible is also mocking today’s “all-knowing” world leaders who cannot discern global occurrences as happening according to Bible prophecy relating to the end of the world. As we read the passage for today, the Jews in Jesus’ days could not understand the storm of the impending violent Roman overthrow of their city and country in AD 70. They were also ignorant of benefits the teaching and sacrifice of Jesus was going to bring.
The counsel of Jesus holds true today for the sinner: God is both the adversary and judge of the unrepentant sinner; while on the way to the judgment seat, the sinner is encouraged to acknowledge the claims of Jesus Christ and through Him, obtain pardon and eternal life. Refusal to do this will lead to a life of punishment in hell.
For the believer, we are reminded that everything we are, everything we do and everything we own really belongs to God and should be used for the Kingdom work. We are to invest all our resources in heaven’s Stock Market which never crashes.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: This is the day of grace: repentance and salvation are still possible now.

Darlene Zschech: popular christian worship leader, Ends Chemo (Video below)

Nearly five months ago, former Hillsong Church worship pastor Darlene Zschech announced that she had breast cancer and would undergo chemotherapy. Now the popular singer and songwriter is thanking prayer warriors for their efforts during the battle.

Zschech announced she has officially finished her last round of chemo and says hallelujah is the best word to describe how she feels about it. The battle isn't over. She starts radiation this coming week and that will last six weeks.
"I shall be glowing from the inside out," she quips. "And then that's it. Never again."
Zschech again thanks her fans for continued prayers.
"On the days where I have felt I cannot do it anymore, I literally have felt the strength of people praying for me," she wrote on her blog. "The power of the Holy Spirit to comfort and strengthen has been beyond what I have ever experienced before. Again, I am so thankful for every one of you."
Zschech says she's had a lot of time to think—and think deeply. During this time, she says, she's reflected and prayed on many things.
"I cry easily, not necessarily sad tears, but tears all the same," she says. "Even when I'm laughing I end up crying. I think the tears have taken the place of words for the time being. This too shall pass. One day the words to define this season will come. And I pray they bring hope to all who hear."
"Even though I unashamedly begged for God to heal me before treatment," she says, "He said to me that as I walked through He would never leave me.
"This is the truth for all of us today, no matter what you may be facing, even if God feels far away, our loving Father will never leave us or forsake us. I take great pleasure in knowing this beyond a shadow of a doubt. He is with me. He is with you."
Zschech says she's excited about leading worship Sunday at church—the first time since the journey started.
"Even if its [sic] a bit rough and ready, leading people to the courts of our God is my greatest honor. I simply cannot wait!" she says. "His presence truly is heaven. We will pray on Sunday night for all those needing healing, and for all of you who've asked us to pray for loved ones. Yes we shall. Healing, in Jesus name."

These baked egg potato bowls will make a yummy breakfast
To make these delicious and tempting baked egg potato bowls first you have to bake potatoes. Cut their top part when cooled down and scoop out the flesh to create bowls.

Brush some melted butter inside the bowls and add grated cheese. Top with any smoked meat and then add an egg in each bowl. Sprinkle salt and pepper, add a bit of cheese and green onions. Bake in the oven until the eggs are cooked and cheese is melted.

Watch the Friends You Keep

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 18:1-12
KEY VERSE: “Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab” (2 Chronicles 18:1).
The spiritual declension of Solomon began when he established illicit relationships with “strange women” (1 Kings 11:4). A similar thing also happened to Jehoshaphat who had been blessed and honoured by God for his commitment to Him.
However, he entered into friendship with Ahab, a wicked king. He even arranged for his son to marry Athaliah, Ahab’s daughter who would later become a tyrant and introduce idolatry in Judah. Ahab made a big feast for Jehoshaphat and his entourage in Samaria. Ahab also cleverly convinced Jehoshaphat to enter into a military alliance with him. But Jehoshaphat who still retained his godliness, would not go to war without asking counsel of God. Ahab promptly produced 400 of his hired prophets who urged them to go to war with a promise of victory. Jehoshaphat was not fooled, hence he specifically asked for “a prophet of the Lord”. Even when Prophet Micaiah told the truth as directed by the Lord with regard to the outcome of the battle, this would not still dissuade Jehoshaphat from going to war, where he was almost killed.
Christians, whether leaders or not, who make friends with unbelievers, compromise righteous values, and will have their spiritual awareness dulled. They would become insensitive to the leading of the Spirit of God and spineless to resist the allurement of the wicked people to go into sin. If they continue in that downward slide, they would soon lose their relationship with the Lord completely. Such people would normally desire to be told only what they want to hear. But believers must stand on the unchanging word of God. For it is only the truth that can set man free.

By Creation and by Choice

TEXT: PSALM 116:10-19
KEY VERSE: “I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people” (Psalm 116:14).
The prophet Jonah had to put up with an avoidable stay in the bosom of a big fish. He could have escaped this if he had paid his vows to God earlier. It was an insight that dawned on him as the great sea creature tossed him to and fro. What are your vows too? Is it not total devotion to God and His cause for the great salvation He brought to us through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
What can the pardoned sinner render unto God in exchange for His goodness? Or, what can those who have been delivered from trouble or distress give in appreciation for God’s magnanimity? The best gift we can offer God is unreserved submission and devotion of ourselves and all that we have to His service.
The Psalmist said, in his own case: “I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.” He said he would take up the cup of consolation, the benefit God bestowed unto him and taste of His love in them.
We have numerous causes for which to praise God and to give up ourselves unto Him. We are His own by creation and by redemption. We equally belong to Him by His manifold investments and endowments in our lives. And we need to rightly recognise ourselves as His servants indeed. How wonderful to give birth to children and to raise them in godly homes! If God has mercifully loosened our bonds, we are thus twofold servants of His, for we cannot afford to use our new-found liberty to serve an enemy to our new Master and Redeemer.
We should follow the Psalmist’s example, who willingly offered to God without being ashamed of anyone, and without boasting about it. Such are the true saints of God, in whose lives and deaths He will be glorified.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Render sacrificial service to God.
